Surf Snowdonia reveals new brand and significantly expanded adventure offer for 2019

26 November 2018

Story:

Surf Snowdonia has revealed a new brand and a game-changing new adventure offer which will open to visitors in summer 2019.

The world-first inland surf hub, which launched in 2015, is also in advanced discussions with Hilton to open a Hilton Garden Inn within the development. The new hotel would mark the brand’s first in Wales.

Surf Snowdonia will rebrand to Adventure Parc Snowdonia to reflect its broader offer, which it says will deliver a landmark visitor destination not just for North Wales, but for the UK and beyond. The 300-metre inland surf lagoon will remain a key part of the attraction.

Investment in the development will be in the region of £16 million. The new offer for 2019 will include:

  • Adrenaline Indoors – a nature-inspired high-thrills climbing, artificial caving adventure experience.
  • Explore Outdoors – fresh-air family activities including an off-road pump track, mountain bike trail, bouldering, fun & fitness trail and adventure playground.
  • Adventure Concierge Service – to encourage visitors to explore exciting instructor-led activities off-site and visit other leading attractions in the region.

The expanded adventure offer will be followed in 2020 by the following:

  • Hilton Garden Inn – a 106-bedroom lagoon-side hotel.
  • Wellness Spa – with indoor and outdoor treatment and relaxation areas.
  • Conference facilities – a versatile corporate space in a superb natural setting.

Andy Ainscough, managing director of Surf Snowdonia said:

Our investment in phase two is all about building on what we’ve established over the last three years: a flagship adventure destination for Wales and the UK. Our plans will allow us to give our visitors more of what we know they really value: engaging, family-friendly adventures which take them away from their screens and get them moving more in the great outdoors.

More detail about the new offer

Explore Outdoors A new outdoor adventure zone suitable for children and adults. Explore Outdoors will feature fresh-air family activities including an off-road pump track, a mountain bike trail and technical skills course, bike hire, a fun & fitness trail, bouldering course and adventure playground. Activities will be suitable for visitors age 5+.

Adrenaline Indoors A nature-inspired high-thrills climbing and adventure experience for children and adults. Featuring the kind of obstacles and jumps you might expect to find in a stuntman’s repertoire, Adrenaline Indoors will include artificial caving, climbing walls, extreme slides, bag jumps, a via ferrata, ninja trail, flight towers and a zip line across the surf lagoon. There will be age-appropriate activities from age 5+, as well as a soft play area for younger visitors.

Adventure Concierge An expert service which will encourage visitors to explore instructor-led activities in the natural playground of North Wales as well as other leading attractions in North Wales which reflect the region’s local produce, culture and heritage. Suitable for children and adults, activities will include SUP safaris, gorge walking, mountain biking, orienteering and canoeing – all led by specialist local partners. The adventure concierge will plan a bespoke itinerary designed to suit group age, size and ability.

Transformational development

The proposed investment will effectively double Surf Snowdonia’s workforce, creating more than 100 new jobs. It will also boost visitor numbers to North Wales, expanding Surf Snowdonia’s annual season from nine months to twelve.

Jim Jones, managing director of regional marketing body North Wales Tourism, said:

“Surf Snowdonia is a transformational development that has regenerated this part of the Conwy Valley. It is now one of our top attractions in Wales and has contributed immensely to our dynamic regional and economic tourism profile. The fact that the team are looking to invest further in a new state of the art all year-round indoor attraction and hotel is further testament to the confidence of our adventure offer.”

Planning for Surf Snowdonia’s phase two plans was approved by Conwy County Borough Council on 14 November 2018, with construction due to get underway in the coming weeks. The scheme has been designed by Altrincham-based Pozzoni Architects Ltd, with WCP Associates appointed as project managers.

Adventure Parc Snowdonia will open for surfing in May 2019, with the new indoor and outdoor adventure offers to launch in summer 2019.
