Llanberis Lake Railway
Sit back and enjoy a more leisurely way to travel. Let our little steam trains take you on a journey through spectacular scenery right in the heart of Snowdonia. The journey takes you past 13th century Dolbadarn Castle, across rivers and streams and along part of the old slate railway route following the shores of beautiful Lake Padarn. Enjoy magnificent views of Snowdon and the surrounding high peaks from the comfort of your carriage.
The five mile return journey takes around 60 minutes, and the trains stop for a few minutes at Cei Llydan mid-way along the lake. Here we have a very pleasant lakeside picnic site, and a kiosk selling food and beverages during the peak season.
We return to Gilfach Ddu where you leave the train and visit our shop and café, which serves light refreshments and meals, or you can watch whilst the engine takes on coal and water. You may also wish to visit the National Slate Museum.
If you decide to remain with the train to Llanberis, this takes around 70 minutes (less on the last departures of the day). Tickets are available for one return journey, but do allow you to stop off and catch a later train back so you can make the most of your day.
All our trains are scheduled to be hauled by one of our historic narrow-gauge steam engines that spent their earlier career working the nearby slate quarries.
